Shapiro, who ran uncontested while still Pennsylvania Attorney General, succeeded the term-limited Tom Wolf in 2023, making Shapiro the first Pennsylvania governor elected to replace a member of his party since 1966.Garrity, a retired Army Reserve colonel and three-tour Iraq veteran, was serving as vice president of a tungsten smelting plant when she beat Democratic Treasurer Joe Torsella by less than 1 percentage point in the 2020 election.
