The Niagara History Center’s free Family Night series continues on May 27 with am Erie Canal themed program to celebrate the opening of the 2026 navigation season. The program will take place at Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Church St., from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Activities will begin at 6 p.m. with an introduction in front of the Raphael Beck mural “The Opening of the Erie Canal, Lockport, October 26, 1825.” A 15-minute movie about the construction of the Flight of Five Locks will be shown and families will have the opportunity to explore the museum exhibits. At 6:30, children can decorate and cut out a small canal boat to take home with them. This will be followed by a few games of “Erie Canal Bingo” with small prizes for the winners, then more time to look at the exhibits as children play in the “Canal Kids Corner.” Specialty cookies will be served starting at 7 p.m. in the Discovery Center lobby.
