A signed federal warrant carried out in Upper Darby went properly, police said.
In a post on social media at 6 a.m. Tuesday, township police alerted residents that they were standing by as federal authorities carried out a signed federal warrant in the 200 block of Wembley Road, which is in the area of Bywood School, where polls for District 5, precinct 7 opened at 7 a.m.
The school was closed for election day.
Suggestions that the warrant impacted the polls were not accurate, said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt.
“I’ll defer all questions to the FBI. What I can share is it was for the rape of a 2-year-old child,” Bernhardt said. “No interruptions to any schools or polling place. We have zero calls for anything related to today’s activity. It should be noted, this was a convicted sex offender living near a school. No one should be comfortable with anyone convicted of such a heinous crime living so close to our elementary school”
The FBI has not yet replied to request of information on the arrest.
