BERKS COUNTY, Pa. – In a race featuring two Republican candidates vying for their party’s nomination to run for the state’s 130th District, one has emerged victorious.
As of 11 p.m. on election night, with all precincts reporting, Melissa Brewer defeated opponent Mitch Micale by approximately 1,500 votes.
Micale is a Berks County educator who aimed to bring “a fresh, conservative voice to Harrisburg—one rooted in real-world experience and a deep commitment to service,” according to his campaign website.
As an educator and community leader, Micale said he worked closely with families and local officials every day, seeing both the challenges they face and the incredible strength of the community.
Micale says he’s guided students through challenges with patience, discipline, and a focus on growth and aimed to bring that same approach to solving the issues facing the 130th.
The main issues of Micale’s campaign were education & parental rights, fiscal discipline & tax relief, economic growth & energy and creating safe communities.
Berks County native Melissa Brewer was Micale’s opponent.
A graduate of Berks County’s public school system, Brewer says she’s worked to improve the education system as a teacher and school administrator for more than 30 years.
Identifying as a “true conservative” on her campaign website, Brewer says she believes supporting our Constitution and protecting our freedoms is the most important job of our legislators, and she’ll work to do just that in Harrisburg if given the opportunity.
Helping run a small business with her husband, Brewer says she knows what it means to meet a budget – a skill she feels our next legislator will need to help grow Pennsylvania’s economy.
Brewer identifies her key campaign issues as supporting pro-life policies, preserving our Constitutional Rights, especially the 2nd Amendment, ensuring secure elections, standing strong for parental rights and limited government.
Incumbent Republican Rep. David Maloney is not seeking re-election. He was first elected to serve the 130th Legislative District in 2010.
Democrat Erik Bonnett is running unopposed.
