WILKES-BARRE TWP. — Eight didn’t turn out great for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Providence scored three times in the second period as the Bruins handed the Penguins their first loss of the season with a 3-1 setback Wednesday night at Mohegan Arena. It was a battle between two of the lone undefeated teams in the American Hockey League, as Providence will sit in the top spot in the Atlantic Division.
It was the Bruins’ 13th-straight win at Mohegan Arena.
Valtteri Puustinen scored the lone Pens goal with the team down, 2-0, in the second period, scoring off an assist from Chase Pietila.
Brett Harrison, Riley Tufte and Georgi Merkulov accounted for the three Bruins goals.
Sergei Murashov stopped 13 shots for the Pens, while Michael DePietro had 25 saves for Providence.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (7-1) will be home Friday for a Halloween showdown with the Bridgeport Islanders with a 7:05 p.m. start. The team hits the road Saturday to Utica, closing out the weekend.
