Wyomissing police have charged a man with breaking into a garage and stealing a child’s bicycle.
According to court records:
Officer Samuel Bryant said he received an online CrimeWatch tip on Tuesday that an unknown man had entered a garage on Lincoln Court and taken a bike belonging to the homeowner’s son. Surveillance images from the previous night before showed a man walking into the yard shortly after 9.
Security camera footage shows a bearded man with a distinctive walk enter the lot. He enters the attached garage but leaves, apparently scared off by an arriving neighbor, before reentering the garage about 10 minutes later. He is seen pedaling away on a mountain bike valued at $500.
Bryant recognized the man as 31-year-old Ethan Barnes, no permanent address, based on numerous encounters in recent days.
Barnes was later located at the Best Buy on Crossing Drive, where officers had been dispatched for a report of a man sleeping inside the store. He was taken into custody after police confirmed he was wanted in the burglary.
During a search, officers found a marijuana cigarette in his pocket and a partially burned marijuana cigarette.
Barnes was committed to Berks County Jail in lieu of $12,000 following arraignment before District Judge Carissa Johnson in Reading Central Court. He is charged with burglary and possessing a small amount of marijuana.
