The thunder and lightning and wind may be over, replaced by the dull hum of generators, electric company crews, and saws.
A two-word testimony?
“This sucks,” said Kristin Riker of Pottstown.
From Quail Ridge Drive in Cumru Township in Berks County, to the 200 block of Mervine Street in Upper Pottsgrove Township and a number of streets in Pottstown in Montgomery County, our cameras captured the wet aftermath and the assistance.
“The north end of Pottstown experienced significant tree damage. Lots of large branches and trees down,” said volunteer Jay Kratz. “The wind I saw at my home last night, I knew there would be damage and people would be needing our help.”
In these neighborhoods, people know how to help.
“My kid came up, picked up the generator, he was nice enough to loan the neighbors. This generator made sure they were taken care of,” said Mike Riker of Pottstown.
Until power is back on and the roads are clear, they have each other.
“I think it’s great they see each other not during power outages and stuff they seem them playing in the playground walking trick or treating,” Mike Riker said.
It’s a lesson worth repeating. Another lesson? That lightning can strike the same tree twice.
“This is the second time this tree’s been struck by lightning. 2020 as well,” said Kristin Riker.
But even when lighting repeats, so does the support.
“It’s crazy. Mother Nature, what can you do?”
