Lake Erie College recently announced the launch of a new Master of Educational Leadership with a concentration in Athletic Administration, designed to prepare the next generation of leaders in school-based athletics and educational organizations.
This graduate program blends foundational leadership principles with specialized training in athletic administration, intended to equip candidates with the knowledge and skills needed to lead high-performing, ethical, and student-centered athletic programs, according to a news release.
The program addresses a growing need for qualified athletic leaders who understand not only sports management, but also the broader educational mission of schools, the release stated. Graduates will be prepared to serve as athletic directors, administrators, and leaders who promote student success, compliance, and community engagement.
“Lake Erie College is committed to graduate education that aligns with workforce needs, and this program is a direct reflection of that commitment,” Greg Rothwell, dean of the School of Education at Lake Erie College, stated in the release. “Athletic programs play a vital role in student development and school culture.
“We are preparing leaders who can elevate those programs while maintaining a strong focus on educational values, compliance, and student well-being.”
The Athletic Administration track is aligned with national expectations for athletic leadership, including competencies emphasized by organizations such as the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, ensuring graduates are prepared for both immediate impact and long-term career advancement.
Applications are now being accepted for upcoming terms. The college is encouraging prospective students with backgrounds in education, coaching, or related fields to apply.
Lake Erie College also offers a Graduate Certificate in Athletic Administration for professionals seeking targeted, career-focused training without committing to a full master’s program. This 18-credit certificate provides specialized coursework in areas such as athletic program leadership, event and facility management, legal issues, Title IX compliance, and sports marketing.
