The Pennsylvania state parole officer accused of shooting and killing Marchello Woodard last year now faces two less charges.
The Erie County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion to drop two charges against Kevin Seelinger, his attorney Chad Vilushis told Erie News Now’s Philip Ward.
A judge granted the motion to remove simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor, and harassment, a summary offense.
Seelinger, 35, still faces charges of homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. His trial is still scheduled to begin in October.
The fatal shooting during a parole compliance check on Erie’s east side on July 2, 2025, led to months of protests and calls for justice.
The coroner ruled Woodard’s death as a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators initially said Seelinger shot Woodard, 43, as the parole agent hung onto Woodard’s moving car.
Woodard’s family questioned that account called for more transparency from investigators ever since.
The District Attorney’s Office later filed charges Dec. 19 following an investigation by Pennsylvania State Police in collaboration with the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
Seelinger remains in the Erie County Prison without bond.
