Maryann (Beseda) Brigido
OBITUARY
Maryann (Beseda) Brigido, a nearly lifelong Old Forge resident and Old Forge High School’s first ever “Miss Devilette”, passed away peacefully on Monday morning at Allied Hospice of Scranton. She was 87 years old.
Born on September 24, 1938, and raised in the Minooka section of Moosic, Maryann was the daughter of the late Andrew and Josephine (Mikiewicz) Beseda. A 1956 graduate of Old Forge High School, she also earned the distinction as the school’s first ever “Miss Devilette”, a prestigious title annually awarded to the school’s featured majorette or baton twirler.
Strong, determined and possessing an admirable work ethic, she started her career working in the local dress factories as a seamstress then accepting a position at the Scranton State Hospital while raising her two children. Her career culminated in retirement from Waymart Prison.
The focal point of her life was unquestionably her family. She was always both present in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives, including selflessly retiring to help raise her grandson, Santino. In her final days, she came to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior providing her loved ones a sense of comfort in the days ahead. Her legacy will now live on through her beloved family whom she was so proud of.
She is survived by her loving family including her children, Peter D. Brigido and wife Kelly of Plains Twp. and Joyce Brigido and fiance Elliott Carey of Old Forge; her grandchildren, David Brigido, Dante Brigido, Santino Brigido and fiance Desarae Wylie and Bonita Brigido; and nephew and neices. On February 13, 2018, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Brigido; and as the last of her siblings, she was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Vincent “Billy” Beseda and Andrew “Sonny” Beseda.
