DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A growing number of Pennsylvania counties are announcing increased DUI enforcement ahead of the busy Memorial Day holiday travel weekend.

Pennsylvania State Police in Dunmore confirmed troopers from Troop R will conduct DUI checkpoints and roving patrols throughout Lackawanna County from May 22 through May 25. Police say the enforcement effort will focus on roadways with high rates of impaired driving crashes and DUI-related offenses.

The announcement adds Lackawanna County to an expanding list of areas increasing DUI enforcement this weekend, including:

Authorities say the stepped-up enforcement comes after hundreds of DUI arrests and dozens of impaired-driving crashes during last year’s Memorial Day weekend.
