While most high school seniors are still counting down the days until graduation, a group of Erie students marked a major milestone a little ahead of schedule.
Allegheny Health Network Saint Vincent (AHN Saint Vincent) hosted a special graduation ceremony today for students participating in its Project Search program. The event took place at the McGarvey Learning Center, where graduates, families, and educators gathered to celebrate the students’ achievements.
Project Search is a collaborative initiative overseen by the Erie School District and the Barber National Institute. The program is designed to support young adults with intellectual or learning disabilities as they transition from school into the workforce. Through classroom instruction and hands-on job training, students build practical skills that prepare them for long-term employment.
Participants in the program spend time working in a real-world environment at AHN Saint Vincent, gaining valuable experience in a variety of roles. Alongside job training, they receive guidance in communication, teamwork, and workplace expectations all essential tools for success beyond the classroom.
For many students, the ultimate goal of Project Search is employment, and the program has helped numerous graduates secure jobs after completion. Today’s ceremony recognized not only academic progress, but also the confidence, independence, and career readiness each student developed along the way.
Organizers say the program continues to make a meaningful impact by opening doors and creating opportunities for young adults in the Erie community.
As the traditional graduation season approaches, these students are already stepping into their next chapter — equipped with skills, experience, and a strong foundation for the future.
