SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Lackawanna County commissioners recognized a Mid Valley High School senior this week after he was selected as one of just 25 students statewide to receive a major scholarship tied to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

Anthony Betti was honored during a county commissioners meeting after earning a $10,000 scholarship from America250PA along with a matching $10,000 grant from Penn State University to support his future education.

County officials said Betti was recognized for his strong academic achievement and his understanding of the evolution of American citizenship.

Commissioners Bill Gaughan, Thom Welby, and Chris Chermak participated in the recognition ceremony alongside members of Betti’s family.

The scholarship program is part of Pennsylvania’s broader America250 initiative, which commemorates the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
