Court papers do not list the reasons for this decision. Following his release, the woman police said he attacked filed a protection-from-abuse order against him. As part of the conditions, McCarey was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. Police said McCarey claimed he did not have any, but a search warrant led to new charges for ammunition and drugs. McCarey was sent back to jail but was released again without being required to pay bail. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 attempted to speak with McCarey about the charges, but no one answered the door at his home. According to court papers, McCarey remains free and is facing 10 charges, including several violent felonies such as kidnapping and rape.
