BETHLEHEM, Pa. – At ArtsQuest in Bethlehem, it is a day of remembrance, as dozens honor our nation’s fallen heroes this Memorial Day.
“It’s just an honor to be here to see the people and help people start to realize how good they really have it in this country,” said Richard Sam, a Vietnam veteran.
Sam was joined alongside fellow veterans. He said there are three things he wants people to take away from this ceremony.
“Love, gratitude and honor,” said Sam.
Names of fallen service members from across our area were read aloud.
“It is a somber day, but one that we take very seriously here,” said Kassie Hilgert, president and CEO of ArtsQuest.
Many of the names and those of current service members along with photos are displayed on banners throughout the campus. Hilgert said photos and names have been collected for the last 15 years. Names that will never be forgotten.
“I think it gives us a moment to not just have a ceremony, but when you’re walking around and see that many faces, you can’t help but pause and reflect what these people have done to make it possible for what I do today,” said Hilgert.
