BERKS CO., Pa. – The passenger of a sedan that hit a tree in Berks County over the weekend has died from his injuries.
The passenger died at Reading Hospital Sunday around 11:20 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.
State police say the accident happened on southbound Route 183 just north of N. 4th Street, at approximately 1:56 a.m. Sunday. The black Tesla sedan was traveling south but went into the northbound lane and hit the tree, according to state police.
According to state police, the 23-year-old Pottsville man who was driving the car is suspected of being under the influence before the crash.
The passenger suffered severe injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to a nearby trauma center. He later died from his injuries.
Police say it is believed that the driver was wearing his seat belt but the passenger was not.
