Passenger dies from injuries after sedan hits tree; driver suspected of DUI, state police say | Northern Berks County

BERNVILLE, Pa. – The passenger of a sedan that hit a tree in Berks County over the weekend has died from his injuries.

Keenan Cryts, 23, died at Reading Hospital on Sunday around 11:20 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

State police say the accident happened on southbound Route 183, north of North Fourth Street, just before 2 a.m. Sunday. The black Tesla sedan was traveling south but went into the northbound lane and hit the tree, according to state police.

State police say they suspect the 23-year-old driver, who is from Pottsville, Schuylkill County, was under the influence, but they say the investigation is still ongoing.

Cryts suffered severe injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to a nearby trauma center before he died.

Police say it is believed that the driver was wearing his seat belt but Cryts was not.
