The Renaissance Centre office building in downtown Erie is set to take on new life as a boutique-style hotel.
On May 29 at 11:30 a.m., Governor Josh Shapiro and Erie Mayor Daria Devlin will join the building’s owner and investors for a groundbreaking ceremony for The Trust Hotel.
The event, held at 1001 State Street, will mark the start of a major renovation of the Renaissance Centre into the 14-story hotel, which will feature 195 rooms.
Attendees will get a first look at renderings showcasing the future vision for the property. Plans call for preserving and restoring much of the building’s original architecture, honoring its history while ushering in a new chapter.
The project is supported by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the City of Erie, the Erie County Redevelopment Authority, and Erie Insurance.
Murals painted by Edward Trumbull will be on display in the mezzanine during the ceremony. The artwork will remain part of the building as part of ongoing efforts to preserve its historic character
