CATASAQUA, Pa. – Crews are responding to a sinkhole that opened along Race Street, prompting traffic restrictions and the possibility of a full road closure.
According to a Facebook post from the borough, one‑lane traffic with flaggers is currently in place on Race Street, but conditions may require the roadway to be fully closed Wednesday morning to allow crews enough space to work safely.
Borough officials say work is expected to begin around 7:00 a.m. Wednesday and warn that a significant amount of heavy equipment will be moving into the area. Detour signs and traffic‑control devices will be ready if a full closure becomes necessary.
Drivers are strongly urged to avoid Race Street between 10th and 14th streets and use alternate routes while repairs are underway.
The borough also notes that additional parking restrictions and temporary street postings may be implemented on nearby side streets to maintain traffic flow and ensure access for emergency vehicles and repair crews. Officials say they are working to minimize the impact on residents.
