Sinkhole impacting Race Street in Catasauqua; full closure possible

A sinkhole is impacting traffic on a major Lehigh County road.

Race Street in Catasauqua is down to one lane between 10th and 14th streets as crews prepare to repair the sinkhole, the borough announced Tuesday evening in a Facebook post.

However, it’s possible that could turn into a full closure Wednesday morning when work begins, “if conditions require additional room for crews to work safely,” according to the post.

Work is expected to begin at 7 a.m. The borough warned residents to expect a large amount of equipment in the area. Detour signage will be posted in the event of a full closure.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Side streets could also be impacted with additional lane and parking restrictions “to allow room for traffic flow, repair equipment and emergency access,” according to the borough.

“The goal is to limit the impact to residents as much as possible,” the borough noted.
