A 15-year-old boy was shot on his way to a bus stop in Pittsburgh’s Stanton Heights neighborhood on Thursday morning.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said the shooting happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Thursday at the intersection of Stanton Avenue and Woodbine Street. The 15-year-old victim was shot multiple times in the chest and legs. Officers at the scene had to apply tourniquets to control the bleeding.

Neighbors said the teen was walking to his bus stop on Stanton Avenue when he was shot. One neighbor’s security camera showed a car pulling up, people shooting at the teen and then driving off. That neighbor gave the police the video.

Witnesses and other neighbors who did not want to be identified said they heard anywhere from 10 to 20 shots. It appeared to them that the shooting was not random. They added that the shooting happened within 25 yards of a school bus stop where students were waiting.

Police have not released any information about a possible motive or suspects. Investigators believe the suspects took off in a car, but they were unable to give any description.

“It’s usually a pretty quiet neighborhood. Very residential,” neighbor Carol Nichols said.

Police are investigating. KDKA reached out to Pittsburgh Public Schools on Thursday to see if the victim is a student in the district, but did not hear back.
