The Bensalem Police Department warned residents on Tuesday to take extra precautions to keep their cars from being stolen, particularly if they drive a Dodge Charger or Challenger.
According to police, thieves have been targeting the two high-performance Dodge cars, as well as Honda CR-Vs, Accords, and Civics.
The thieves are using sophisticated relay devices that can capture and amplify key fobs that are in the car owner’s home, police said. For this reason, residents are being told to keep key fobs away from doors and windows and, if possible, inside a RFID/Faraday pouch that can block wireless signals.
Keeping your car in a garage and using extra tools such as steering wheel locks can also prevent thefts, police said.
In their social media post, police also included a video of a car theft from May 23 that showed masked up thieves get into the car and drive away without physically forcing entry.
Anyone who sees a car theft or suspicious activity is urged to not approach the suspects and instead call 911.
