Local teachers and administrators can finally let their hair down before the summer season this Friday.
The Greater Erie Economic Development Corporation (GEEDC) is hosting an Educator Appreciation Celebration at the Warner Theatre.
From 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, May 29, a live concert will be held to honor the teachers and administrators of Erie County, featuring Edgewood Heavy from Atlanta, Georgia, and Erie’s own The Breeze Band.
GEEDC’s Chief Executive Officer Gerald Blanks said the organization wanted to show gratitude to a profession that usually goes unappreciated.
“Educators have been struggling, if you will, with classroom types of things and just having to do more with less, less resources. So, we looked at that and said, ‘You know, what can we do to make it better at a local level?’” said Blanks. “We put some things together to say, hey, we want to do some cutting-edge types of things, and say ‘Hey, let’s let the teachers come out and really enjoy themselves this Friday.’”
A portion of the proceeds will benefit participating school districts.
