Former ‘Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ keyboardist Corey Bernhard, a Philadelphia-based producer and composer, is launching a new monthly jam series at Ortlieb’s (847 N. 3rd St.) in Northern Liberties that will raise money for Philadelphians impacted by ICE.

Bernhard has spent more than a decade in the city, contributing to Philadelphia’s music scene, collaborating with artists including Bilal and DJ Jazzy Jeff and performing alongside members of The War on Drugs.

Presented by 4333 Collective, ‘A Jam Without Borders’ kicks off Sunday and will feature Bernhard alongside a rotating lineup of musicians on the last Sunday of each month.

Sunday’s event begins at 9 p.m. with an opening set from Lotits, followed by a collaborative jam session hosted by Corey Bernhard and Friends, featuring Tone Whitfield, Dai Miyazaki, Arnetta Johnson, Max Swan and Mario Crew, along with special guests Kingsley Ibeneche and Mare. Many of the musicians performing Sunday will also appear at the Roots Picnic the day before, making the event something of an unofficial afterparty.

“Despite all of our talent and swagger, sometimes Philly can have a blind spot when it comes to world-class artistry developing in our own backyard,” Bernhard said. “This is an opportunity to showcase some of that talent in a fun, intimate, communal environment. This month alone, we have musicians who have produced and played on Grammy-nominated and Grammy-winning projects. Most of us will be playing at the Roots Picnic the day before.”

The evening will be filled with plenty of locally grown music, but it serves an even greater purpose — Bernhard is partnering with Juntos, a South Philly-based, community-led Latine immigrant organization focused on human rights advocacy.

The event is 21+, and tickets are available for purchase online at dice.fm. Proceeds from the evening will be donated to Juntos to support Philadelphians who have been impacted by ICE.

“I am looking forward to bringing some of the world’s best musicians together at Ortlieb’s every month,” Bernhard continued. “Not only to create music in a way that only happens in Philly, but to be able to donate funds for the important and much-needed work that Juntos is doing to support people in our community who have been impacted by ICE.”
