We visited Presque Isle State Park to take a look at how people were celebrating Memorial Day.
One family we spoke with came from all over the country to spend time with each other on this special day.
Despite the wishy-washy weather, Melissa Walters, visiting from Cincinnati, was glad she came to Erie to enjoy games, nature and food with her family.
“We honestly didn’t think we were going to make it down here because of the rain and so it was missing this morning and we were like, ‘please hold off,’ and it did and we’re thankful because it’s beautiful,” Walters said.

Both her father and her husband served in the U.S. military and she said that if it weren’t for veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice, we wouldn’t get to enjoy our freedoms.
“If it wasn’t for them, we probably wouldn’t be here today, I mean they are keeping us safe, so it’s very important,” Walters said.
And although Walters admits that having a picnic at the beach is more expensive this year, she said it was worth every penny.
