Seven people have been displaced after a fire Monday morning at a Bethlehem duplex.
City Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Matthew Griffin told lehighvalleylive.com flames ignited shortly before 5:30 a.m. at the three-story home in the 500 block of West Union Boulevard.
Crews arrived within minutes, witnesses reported from the scene. They mainly worked on the front and left side of the residence, as well as the roof, the fire chief said.
Seven people escaped the fire safely on their own, Griffin said.
The blaze went to three alarms for additional manpower and equipment, he said.
It took crews about 30 minutes to bring the flames under control. Additional time, however, was spent performing overhaul operations and extinguishing hot spots, Griffin said.

No civilians were injured. However, Lou Jimenez, president of Bethlehem Firefighters IAFF Local 735, posted on Facebook a firefighter was taken to the hospital with an injury.
Grrifin told lehighvalleylive.com Wednesday the firefighter has since been released from the hospital and is “doing well.”
The home the fire originated in sustained water, fire and smoke damage while the attached home had some smoke damage. The duplex has since been deemed uninhabitable by city fire officials, Griffin said.

Nicole Roschella, communications director for the American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania, told lehighvalleylive.com the organization’s disaster team is helping one of the families, all adults, with shelter and other needs.
The cause of Monday’s blaze remains under investigation by the Bethlehem Fire Marshal.
