A decade-long effort to bring Erie’s Bayfront Market House to life may not be over yet.
Council President Tyler Titus confirms a special meeting is scheduled for June 9, where council members will have the opportunity to hold a revote and reconsider the project’s future.
This comes after Erie City Council voted 4-2 against a key ordinance needed to move the $9.5 million project forward, which jeopardized state grant funding.
Mayor Daria Devlin says it’s not too late for compromise, expressing hope the city can still secure funding from Governor Josh Shapiro’s administration.
The project, planned for unused land near the convention center, is expected to generate both city and county tax revenue through its tenants, even though Erie Events itself is tax-exempt.
City leaders say concerns about public access, environmental impact, and architectural design have already been addressed in the ordinance.
The June 9 meeting will begin with a caucus at 5:30 p.m., followed by the full meeting at 6 p.m., which will include time for public comment. More details are expected in the coming days.
