EXETER — Wyoming Area School District hosted its 17th annual Scholarships and Awards Celebration for the Class of 2026 on Thursday at the Secondary Center.
Donors gave more than 100 awards, totaling more than $300,000, to 55 graduating seniors, selected through an application process.
“It’s just so heartwarming that we’re giving some of these kids a leg up and a little bit of an advancement,” said Christine Rutledge, chairperson of Wyoming Area’s scholarship program committee.
Rutledge said the scholarship celebration continues to grow every year, with 10 new scholarships created since last year.
Board President Mara Valenti thanked donors, including families giving memorial scholarships, for their generosity.
“Scholarship night just happens to be my favorite event at Wyoming Area,” Valenti said.
“I’m not sure there’s a more accurate representation of our community,” she said. “This is what it means to be a Warrior, to be surrounded by people who believe in you so much that they have invested in your future.”
Wyoming Area alumnus Blaise Sokach-Minnick ‘22, a Penn State student and football player, shared what it meant to receive a scholarship when he was a senior.
“I was a beneficiary of your generosity not too long ago,” Sokach-Minnick told donors. “I know firsthand the impact your investment has on a student’s future.”
Sokach-Minnick also emphasized the importance of perseverance as Wyoming Area seniors prepare to start their next chapter.
“The hardest roads often lead to the best, most unexpected destinations,” he said. “You’re all about to embark on an incredible journey.”
