WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — A teenager has been accused of shooting and killing a 74-year-old man in Whitehall Township.

Elijah Ceballos, 17, of Whitehall Township, is charged with homicide, firearms not to be carried without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, and possession of a weapon, according to court paperwork.

Court documents say he is due to be arraigned Friday afternoon. He faces a preliminary hearing on June 3.

He was taken to Lehigh County Jail, and his bail was denied.

The 74-year-old man was pronounced dead Thursday at 6:17 p.m. at the scene at the 5100 block of Third Street in the Cementon area, Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio said in a news release. Buglio said the man died as a result of gunshot injuries.

Buglio said he is ruling the man’s death a homicide.

Officers with Whitehall Township Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office were all on scene around 5 p.m. at Third Street and Laurel Lane.

An autopsy will be completed Friday.

Buglio said the man has been identified and his family has been notified. However, Buglio said he will not be releasing his identity at this time so the family can grieve privately.

Around 10:30 p.m., the Whitehall Township Police Department posted on its social media page that there “is no danger to the public.”

The coroner’s office, the Whitehall Township Police Department, the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, and the Lehigh County District’s Office are investigating.
