A Throop man broke into an apartment and assaulted a woman who had a protection-from-abuse order against him, according to a criminal complaint.
Devin Michael Davis, 28, faces a felony charge of strangulation, as well as misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass, simple assault and harassment.
According to the complaint, Throop police officers responded to a George Street residence for the report of a PFA violation at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
Because Davis had a history of violence toward police, Throop officers also requested Dickson City officers to respond, police said.
Officers spoke with the victim, Mariah Matthew, who said she was getting ready to leave for work when Davis broke into her apartment.
The woman said Davis choked her until she lost her breath. Officers noted she had red marks on her neck.
Matthew said Davis had broken into her apartment before but she was too afraid to contact police because she thought he would hurt her.
Officers noted Davis had been arrested multiple times for violating the PFA order and assaulting the victim.
Officers found Davis hiding behind a door in an adjacent apartment.
Police detained Davis at Taser point and handcuffed him. He attempted to break free from the handcuffs, but officers were ultimately able to secure him in a patrol vehicle.
Davis was transported to the police station, where he urinated on the floor of the holding cell and continued to attempt to break free from the handcuffs, police said.
He remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on June 8 before District Judge Laura Turlip.
