LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Shoppers and workers at a central Pennsylvania Kohl’s may have been exposed to measles after a person with the virus was recently at the store, the Pennsylvania Department of Health said Friday.

If anyone was at the store along Lincoln Highway East in Lancaster on these dates – Thursday, May 21, Saturday, May 23, Monday, May 25, and Tuesday, May 26 – they may have been exposed, the PA DOH said.

Officials added that the person who was infected is not a risk to the general public anymore, and they are working to get resources to anyone who may have been exposed.

“The best protection against measles is to get vaccinated,” Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen said. “With two measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine doses, you are at extremely low risk of getting measles and spreading it to your family and community. People who may have been exposed at this Kohl’s location should contact their health care provider if they develop signs of sickness. These simple actions will help protect you and your community from this disease.”

The health department is reminding the public that unvaccinated individuals are at the highest risk, and that overall risk in the state is low due to high vaccination rates.

Symptoms to keep a lookout for include a fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes followed by a rash that starts on the head. Officials said that without treatment, the virus can turn deadly.
