WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON, Pa. – Friday night, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins went up against the Toronto Marlies in game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Marlies won 2-1 in an overtime thriller, giving them a two-game advantage heading into the next 3 games at home.
Toronto scored first late in the first period when Alex Nylander scored his fourth goal of the playoffs at 18:21 of the period. No scoring in the second period left the fans at Mohegan Arena on edge as the game went into the second intermission with their Penguins trailing 1-0. Eight minutes into the third period, Tanner Howe got the crowd on their feet as he scored his second of the playoffs and tied the game at 1. As the third period wound down, both teams had chances to score the go-ahead goal, but the goalies and defense came up big when needed. An entertaining overtime came to an end when the Marlies put the puck in the net, but it was called no goal on the ice. After further review, it was determined that the puck went in off goalie Sergie Murashov and was ruled a good goal.
