CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – On Monday night, the Cape Girardeau City Council voted on the first reading of the 2026-27 city budget, as well as an ordinance to increase utility fees for the next year.
The proposal would add a 15% increase to water, 5% to trash, and 3% to sewer fees.
The city council will vote on both ordinances after a second reading at the next city council meeting.
If passed, the new fees will go into effect on July 1.
