It’s been a season to remember for the Scranton Prep boys lacrosse team. The Cavaliers have gone through the regular year perfect after 19 games, one of jut two teams in the state to be undefeated.

Prep won the Wyoming Valley conference and wheeled its way through a tough non conference schedule.

Donato Rinaldi, Scranton Prep Senior says, “ It’s been storybook at this point. Like we’ve had three overtime games. They were obviously all close. Maybe they shouldn’t have been as close as they were, but I mean, we came out on top with 19 and 0.

It’s kind of crazy because we’re all so close with each other. I mean, we see each other in school, but we’re all such close friends. We hang out with each other. It’s truly special that we have such a close bond and we could hold each other accountable. “

Kieth Toolan, Scranton Prep Coach added, “When they’re in the huddle or if they’re down during a game, you look at them and they never think they’re out of the game.

They always think they have a shot at winning and coming back. So it just continued this year, having three overtime games and a couple other tight games that they they never quit, they never die and they always think they have a shot. “

Prep won their second district two double A championship with a four goal comeback in the last four minute of the game. Mackey Lynott picked up a loose ball in overtime of the title contest to give the Cavaliers the impressive comeback win.

Mackey Lynett, Scranton Prep Senior says, “ When I picked the ball up, I was honestly thinking, like, I’m trying to look for somebody like closer to the net. And then I just saw like, all right, I’m just going to take it. If I miss it, I miss it. If I make it, I make it and it just went in, luckily. I mean it was awesome, Just everything kind of went right for the last 4 to 5 minutes of the game, and it was just like you could tell, like everyone’s all behind you on the team and like, it just you couldn’t do it without the team. “

Toolan, “ Another game that was unbelievable. It was great to be part of a lot of a lot of fans, a lot of energy in the stadium and the kids just like I said before, they just never quit and ended up winning.

Prep is led by an offense that averages 17 goals per game.

The trio of McPartland brothers, Will, Tato, and Owen have accounted for 156 goals this season.

Will McPartland, Scranton Prep Senior says, “ I mean, maybe there were some doubts, but it’s super special to be able to play with both of them. I’ve been playing with Tato for the last couple of years, which has been great, but for the three of us together, it’s great. We all kind of know each other we all have great chemistry and, you know, we just flow on the field all together as a unit. “

After winning the district championship, Scranton Prep now moves into the state playoffs for the fourth straight year. Where they’ll face the district 3-3 seed Lower Dauphin on Tuesday. The Cavaliers know that experience might pay off this year as they have high expectations.

“Yeah I mean obviously we want to see the state chip. But I think overall from the team I think we just need to have a complete rise in everyone effort. You know, play style. We just need to take that next level. “McPartland said.

Lynett added, “I want to see a state win. “
