Pennsylvania state leaders used a visit to the Elizabethtown Child Care Center in Lancaster County today to highlight efforts to make child care more affordable for working families. Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis said the Shapiro administration has expanded the child care tax credit, increased relief for families and invested in bonuses for child care workers to help with recruitment and retention. “Under the Shapiro/Davis administration, the maximum credit went from $315 for one child to more than $1,000. For two or more kids, it went from $630 to $2,000 or more. That’s real money,” said Davis. Shapiro’s proposed 2026-2027 budget calls for $35 million to give those industry workers retention bonuses. The deadline to get a state budget passed is June 30.
