A Cheektowaga man is facing murder charges in connection with the shooting deaths of his wife, 4- and 3-year-old sons and another man, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
Saleh Mohamed, 29, is charged with one count of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder, the DA’s office said.
He was taken into custody without incident after he returned to the scene of the crime, authorities said.
Authorities say a 43-year-old man was shot and killed at a store on the 1000 block of Grant Street near Military Road in Buffalo around 2:30 p.m. Monday. Then, at around 3:30 p.m., the DA’s office says Mohamed’s wife and two sons were found dead by officers at a home on Ellen Drive in Cheektowaga.
“It’s never a good scene to have to walk into with the loss of life, especially when it’s children. It affects the investigators,” Buffalo Police Chief of Detectives Joseph Langdon said.
Mohamed is being held without bail. He is scheduled to return to both Cheektowaga Town Court and Buffalo City Court for felony hearings Friday morning.
The DA’s office says Mohamed faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole if convicted of the highest count, and that additional charges may be filed.
According to Erie County District Attorney Michael Keane, the names of the victims will not be released until all family has been notified.
“Domestic violence is a scourge,” Keane said. “These crimes are horrific and this is the worst of the worst.”
Police would not yet clarify if the victims in the two cases were related.
