Two police officers were shot and a suspect was killed in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident occurred along the 100 block of North Florida Avenue around 3 p.m. as police officers executed a search warrant.
Investigators said two Atlantic City police officers as well as a suspect were shot. The suspect died from his injuries while the two officers were hospitalized. One of the officers suffered life-threatening injuries while the second officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police said there is currently no active threat to the public.
The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating the incident.
Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small also released a statement on the shooting.
“The fine men and women in blue of the Atlantic City Police Department put their lives on the line every day to protect our community, and I am grateful for their courage,” Small wrote. “We truly have the best police department in the world. My thoughts and prayers are with the two Atlantic City police officers who were wounded this afternoon, as well as their families, and the entire Atlantic City Police Department during this difficult time. We are hopeful for their full and speedy recovery. Any additional information regarding this incident will be released by the Atlantic City Police Department or the New Jersey Office of Attorney General.”
