I am a very loyal and proud citizen of Reading going on 13 years now. When Eddie Moran replaced Wally Scott as mayor, I saw a beacon of hope. Sadly, it seems as if the city has gotten worse over the past several years. I’ve seen someone sleeping on the steps of a local church at least three days a week, and in a city like Reading, that seems far too dangerous, especially with the gun violence.

Violent crime used to typically happen deep in the city, but now there’s been a shooting at a basketball game at City Park, which is scarily close to where I live now.

The other huge problems are the cars and fireworks. People honk, blast music and set off fireworks at all hours. We had been assured that the noise ordinance would be enforced, but instead we hear screamers, blasters, and “machine-gun” fireworks that set off 10 bursts in 10 seconds well after the 10 p.m. cutoff time.

I understand that mayors have a lot of work, but it seems like Reading still has the same problems we had with Scott as mayor. I’m rooting for Mayor Moran. My message to him: Please improve Reading.
