A 19-year-old was seriously injured after he was hit by a car Tuesday night on Bethlehem’s West Side.

The man was hit by a car about 10:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of West Broad Street, city police said in a news release. Authorities found him lying in the street, suffering from severe injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of those injuries, which police said are potentially life-threatening.

The driver and the vehicle remained at the scene after the crash, and police said the driver is cooperating with investigators. There is no indication that impairment was a factor in the crash, police said.

Witness statements indicate that the man tried to cross the road between vehicles right before the crash, the release states.
