Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of West Broad Street at approximately 10:36 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian, according to Bethlehem police.
An officer already in the area arrived immediately and found the 19-year-old lying in the roadway with severe injuries, police said. Bethlehem police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel began life-saving measures at the scene.
The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Patrol officers launched an investigation, and the Bethlehem Police Department’s Major Accident Reconstruction Team was called to assist, according to the release.
The driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police said there is no indication impairment was a factor in the crash.
While the investigation remains active, preliminary witness statements and evidence indicate the pedestrian may have attempted to cross the roadway between vehicles immediately before the collision, police said.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is asked to contact the Bethlehem Police Department Traffic Unit at 610-997-7666.
