(WBRE/WYOU)— The Triple-A affiliate of the Subway Series lived up to the hype as the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre Railriders beat the Syracuse Mets 6-5.
The scoring started in the third for the Railriders with Oswaldo Cabrera bringing in a run off a sac fly before Francisco Alvarez doubles in a run in the bottom half of the inning.
Both teams exchange runs in the fourth as well, with the Yankees’ number one prospect, George Lombard, walking home a run while Andy Ibanez pimped a solo homer to left to tie the game at 2.
Ernesto Martinez hit a solo homer to give the Railriders the lead in the sixth before Seth Brown doubled home Spencer Jones to bring on the insurance, before Jones walked home a run in the eighth, and Cabrera sac flied home another run to give them a 6-2 lead they would not relinquish.
Rafael Montero closed the game in relief after Carsson Coleman allowed three runs on just one hit in the ninth.
Dom Hamel gets his second win of the season, allowing just two earned runs and four hits through five innings of work.
The two teams duke it out again on Wednesday in Syracuse with the first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns to PNC Field on Tuesday, June 9th, against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
