SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Scranton man is recovering after a shooting that forced neighbors to shelter for hours.
Police say 38-year-old Brian Kimble Junior was shot in the arm Wednesday afternoon outside a home on Third Avenue.
The shooting turned into a standoff before 64-year-old Roger Sugerman surrendered to police.
Police say Kimble had been helping Sugerman clean his home when the argument started. Family tells us Kimble had been doing that for the last two to three years.
Arrest made after smoke shop robbed at gunpoint
Police were called to the 500 block of Third Avenue just after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. They found Kimble with a gunshot wound to his arm.
Before the shooting, police say Sugerman made paranoid and delusional statements, and accused Kimble of being a “double agent.” Police say Sugerman also believed Kimble wanted to hurt him.
Investigators say the two argued on Sugerman’s front porch before Sugerman fired a gun and hit Kimble. Sugerman then went back inside.
That brought Scranton Police and Lackawanna County SWAT to the neighborhood. After a nearly three-hour standoff, he surrendered to police.
Police say Kimble’s injury is not life-threatening.
Sugerman was taken into custody for a mental health evaluation. Police say charges against him include aggravated assault.
The shelter order was lifted Wednesday night, and police say the scene is clear.
