MLB Hall of Famer to talk about sun safety ahead of Fightin Phils June 30 game   | Reading Area

READING, Pa.- The Fightin Phils announced MLB Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt will speak about the importance of sun safety ahead of the Phils’ upcoming game on June 30. 

Schmidt will make a presentation with Dermatology Partners and the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation at the Diamond Credit Union Plaza’s Mitsubishi Chemical Group Stage, the Phils said in a news release. 

The presentation is part of Dermatology Partners’ “Play Sun Safe” campaign, a community-focused initiative to prevent skin cancer, according to the report. 

“While my career was thriving, my skin was being damaged by the harmful rays of the sun,” Schmidt, a melanoma survivor, said. “Now, I’m committed to making sure the next generation of players and fans understands how to protect themselves.” 

Schmidt’s presentation is open to anyone and will begin at 6:15 p.m., prior to the Phils’ 7 p.m. game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, according to the Fightin Phils. 

Dermatology Partners said free sunscreen and educational materials will be available for fans during the presentation.
