A Kutztown man died Wednesday in Reading Hospital shortly after falling from a scaffold at a worksite in Shillington, Berks County Coroner Matthew J. Stitzel said.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 9:47 a.m. to 31 Catherine St., where the 47‑year‑old man had fallen from scaffolding. Initial reports indicated he fell from the second‑story level of a large brick building that has recently housed several businesses, including a precision machining shop, a karate academy and a group fitness center.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Reading Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:11 a.m. by a physician, Stitzel said.
The coroner’s office withheld the man’s name.
An autopsy is scheduled for this morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest.
