SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A Scranton man is facing felony charges after police say he shot another man during an argument Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Scranton Police Department, officers responded to the 510-514 block of Third Avenue around 2:16 p.m. June 3 for a reported shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Brian Kimble Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound to his left forearm. Emergency medical personnel treated Kimble at the scene before he was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center. Police said the injury was not considered life-threatening.

Investigators identified the alleged shooter as Roger Sugerman, 64, of Scranton.

According to police, Kimble told investigators he regularly assists Sugerman with cleaning his residence and was doing so on the day of the shooting. Kimble said Sugerman began making paranoid and delusional statements before the incident, accusing him of being a “double agent” and claiming he intended to harm him.

Police said the two became involved in a verbal altercation on the front porch of Sugerman’s home, during which Sugerman allegedly fired a handgun, striking Kimble in the arm.

Following the shooting, police said Sugerman retreated into the residence. Members of the Scranton Police Department Special Operations Group, assisted by the Lackawanna County SWAT Team, responded to the scene and took Sugerman into custody after he surrendered without incident.

Following consultation with the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office, Sugerman was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue executing search warrants and processing evidence, according to police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Scranton Police Department Detective Bureau.
