A Walnutport man is accused of crashing his vehicle into a gift shop while fleeing from police Monday night in Lehigh Township.

Kyle Clark, 27, faces several charges after fleeing from police at speeds between 80-100 mph, township police said in a news release. He crashed into Kushy Boutique, a gift shop at 4622 Lehigh Drive, the department said.

The gift shop remains closed after the building was damaged in the crash.

Clark passed an officer’s unmarked vehicle by entering the opposite travel lane about 9:50 p.m. on West Mountain View Drive near Poplar Drive, according to the release. He continued eastbound at speeds of 80-100 mph while the officer tried to stop him, police said.

He crashed into the shop, shattering the front windows and damaging an electrical box, causing the building to lose power, authorities said. Clark, the only occupant in the vehicle, showed signs of impairment, according to police, who added that he refused to take a breath test or a blood draw for chemical testing.

Clark was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. While he was being taken there, he threatened an officer, telling the officer he would find him and assault him, the release states. He also resisted arrest while being moved to a stretcher, causing a forearm injury to an officer, police said.

Kushy Boutique posted on social media that the shop will be closed temporarily while repairs are being made.

Clark faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and DUI, which are felonies, as well as misdemeanors of making terroristic threats and resisting arrest. He has not been arrested as of Thursday, according to court records.
