The Animal Rescue League of Berks County is hosting a free adoption event on June 8 and 10-14 for all pets over six months old.

To be considered as a pet adoptor, prospective individuals must complete an adoption profile and meet with a counselor to ensure a good home match. Individuals are also encouraged to bring family members to meet the pet.

Dog adopters should bring resident dogs to check compatibility. They must pay the Pennsylvania-required $11.30 dog license fee and should bring a collar and leash, or purchase one at the shelter. Cat adopters should bring a carrier or buy one at the shelter for $5.

The adoption sponsorship is funded by Ruby and Remmy, two dogs whose families have decided to cover the adoption fees for all qualifying animals during the event.

According to a Reading Eagle report, shelter hours are Monday and Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

A virtual line is set up at berksarl.org/hello, where guests can check in upon arrival at the shelter. Guests will be able to hold their place in line and be notified when it’s their turn to meet with an adoption counselor. Extended wait times during sponsored adoption events are expected.

The Animal Rescue League of Berks County is at 58 Kennel Road in Cumru Township, located in Birdsboro. To view pets available for adoption, visit the organization’s website.
