The Outsiders The Musical makes it’s Philadelphia debut this week. The classic book and film The Outsiders is now a Tony award winning musical. The show won four Tony Awards. Best Lighting Design in a Musical, Best Sound Design in a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical and Best Musical in 2024. Now, it’s here in Philly for the very first time.
Set in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, join Ponyboy, Johnny and their other Greasers family for an action packed musical. The classic story told in a way you’ve never seen it before, with exciting stage choreography, songs and fight scenes. See the tragic story come to life on the Academy of Music stage. Kristen speaks with Tyler Jordan Wesley who plays Dallas Winston, and Bonale Fambrini who plays Johnny Cade from The Outsiders The Musical about what it’s like to perform this classic story adapted for the stage.

This classic, coming of age film is familiar to many, but you don’t need to know the story to enjoy this show. For those that DO know it well, don’t worry. The “Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.” line does make an appearance.

The Outsiders film is considered one of the original brat pack movies and notorious for the number of stars in it (Diane Lane, Tom Cruise, Emilio Estevez, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Machio, Matt Dillon and Rob Lowe). The musical version offers actors with that level of talent, who can also sing and dance – live in front of an audience night after night.
