The City of Erie helped residents clean up safely this weekend, hosting a drive-through recycling event for tires and electronics.
The annual event, which was held at the Municipal Garage Complex on Holland Street, gave residents a chance to dispose of their unusual trash items.

Residents drove their cars through a makeshift drive-through setup where workers took the electronics or tires from the cars and placed them in a designated area to be disposed of properly.
Accepted items included things like computers, monitors, printers, keyboards and speakers.
“Old TVs can have lead in them, so we break them down, we recycle as much of the metals and valuable products as possible, and then we dispose of any hazardous material correctly,” said Sarah Peelman, sustainability coordinator for the City of Erie.
City officials said events like this help reduce environmental hazards, while also making disposal easier for the community.
