A Scranton Police K-9 vehicle rolled over in a crash Thursday night, but both the dog and officer escaped serious injury, according to Scranton Police Chief Thomas Carroll.
Officer Scott Benzeleski was returning from training with K-9 officer Rock at about 6 p.m. on Interstate 380 northbound near Exit 20 – Daleville/Moscow at the time of the crash.
“We are relieved to report our K-9 handler Officer Benzeleski and his police dog Rock escaped serious injury after the vehicle crash,” Carroll said. “Thankfully their vehicle protected them and both are expected to return to duty after recovery. We appreciate the public’s concern and words of support.”
Titan Tree service workers happened to be in the area and came upon the crash soon after it happened, assisting at the scene until the arrival of emergency services, the company noted on Facebook.
State police are investigating the crash.
